Youth and Unemployment
Youth have at times been called the conscience of a nation. Their physical and mental energy, fearlessness, zest for life and ideas often mirror what Kenyan society could be. We must bring this energy into the mainstream of development by involving them in the development and design of the future. It is, after all, their future. We must give them a say in shaping it.
There are areas in the management of our national affairs where long experience counts. There are also areas where the ability to question the status quo and vision a different reality will support us in propelling our great country to new heights. We must learn to recognise the difference and to call on the human resource that fits the need. The whole area of charting a role for Kenya in the area of information and communication technologies is a classic example. We have a youthful generation among whom are leaders in information and communication technology development not only in Kenya but internationally. We must give space to such leadership and an opportunity to serve.
