Our Biggest Resource
Let me conclude by stressing that our greatest resource is our people. They represent an immeasurable value that cannot be replaced by all the land and all the gemstones in the world. Kenyans have tremendous natural talents – in many cases, world famous talents. Through their own individual efforts they have run their way to celebrity; they have steeple-chased, high-jumped and long-jumped; they have swum and even skied; they have dribbled and scored; they have carved, painted and sculpted; they have composed and sung, written books and recited poems. Kenyans have created, innovated, and discovered in the natural and the social sciences, in the humanities and in technology. They have broken world records and brought great honour and glory to our land.
We salute these men and women and we know there are many more who were simply never given the chance. While they have done so much for the country, the country has not done much in return to support their efforts. This is unacceptable. Any program of action that we develop will include specific measures to identify and mine this precious and irreplaceable knowledge based wealth.
